Ispat College, one of the premier undergraduate Institutes affiliated to Council of Higher Secondary Education,Orissa and Sambalpur University with a staff strength of 98 and student strength of 1500, imparts quality education in Arts, Science and Commerce. Started on 6th Sept, 1978 it has completed 27 years of its existence, admirably creating in the local consciousness a firm and positive imprint of its own. Situated amidst verdant greenery on the banks of the river Koel, it provides an ambience conducive to education.

It started with a modest strength of 430 students in the first year with visiting faculty from other local colleges. The Science wing was added on to the already existing Arts and Commerce streams in 1980. Honours courses in English, History, Political Science, Economics, Hindi, Oriya, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics were introduced to make the fledgling college a full-fledged undergraduate institution of higher education. P.G diploma in Computer Application in a joint venture with UNITECH has also been started to make the programmes forward looking.

A dedicated team of 46 teachers, 14 of them with Ph.D and 6 with M. Phil, take care of the business of low cost high quality teaching at a remarkable unit cost of Rs.7269. Among the support services offered by the college for student benefits are the Central Library and Sports facilities, Computer Centre, a Canteen,a coffee corner a Grievance Redressal cell, a Shed for parking vehicles and a pay phone. There is a proposal to have separate hostels for boys and girls. There is housing provision for staff. There is a Placement cell. The college boasts of links with institutions of national and international repute for purposes of faculty development, research and field studies by students. All this is being managed with resources received from the State Government in the shape of grants and development fees collected from students.
